We offer two types of braces at our orthodontic practice.

To determine which treatment option is most suitable for you, book a consultation with our doctors at Ocean Orthodontics.

Most orthodontic braces consist of wires secured to metal brackets with small rubber bands, which are then cemented directly to teeth. However, not all braces are the same, and different types may be recommended depending on your needs.

Traditional metal braces

Classic “colour braces” get their bright appearance from the elastic bands that hold the wire in the brackets. Metal braces are the cornerstone of orthodontic treatment and they are still popular today because they are reliable, economical and allow room for creative expression.

Most importantly, metal braces are suitable for patients of all ages. Whether you are eighteen or eighty, metal braces can help you enhance your smile.

Ceramic braces with tooth-coloured brackets

At Ocean Orthodontics, we offer ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured bands as an alternative to traditional metal braces.

These clear braces are designed to blend with the natural colour of your teeth. This option is available for the upper teeth while still providing clinically effective orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic treatment: potential benefits

Why consider braces or aligners? Here’s how orthodontic treatment can support oral health and wellbeing:

Book a consultation

Easier oral hygiene

Straighter teeth can be easier to clean, helping reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum problems.

May improve bite and comfort

Correcting bite issues can ease jaw strain, headaches and uneven tooth wear.

More confidence

Many patients report feeling more comfortable with their smile after treatment

Improved speech

Orthodontic treatment may support clearer speech in some cases.

Long-term savings

Properly aligned teeth may help with long-term oral health, potentially reducing future dental interventions.

Frequently asked questions about braces.

Do I really need to get braces?

Braces can support healthier teeth by making them easier to clean. Straighter teeth may help reduce the risk of common oral health issues such as tooth decay and gum disease.

If you have concerns about your teeth alignment, book a consultation with our specialist orthodontist at Ocean Orthodontics in Maroochydore to explore your options.

Are braces painful?

Some patients experience mild discomfort as teeth gradually move. These sensations are typically temporary. At Ocean Orthodontics, we help you choose a suitable treatment and provide guidance on managing any discomfort.

Is it too late for me to get braces?

It is never too late to straighten your teeth. Nowadays, more adults than ever before are exploring the benefits of getting braces. Some individuals get braces for the very first time when they are 60 or even 70 years old!

We recommend that you have a consultation with our team in Maroochydore to make sure that your teeth are ready for braces. Dental health is a major factor in orthodontic treatment, but age does not have to be.

How do I clean my teeth with braces?

The type of braces you have will influence the cleaning techniques and tools you use. At Ocean Orthodontics, we provide guidance on a personalised oral hygiene routine to support your dental health during treatment.

What is the best type of braces?

There isn’t a single type of braces that suits everyone. The right treatment depends on your individual needs. Book an initial consultation at Ocean Orthodontics to explore which options may be suitable for you.
