You might be very surprised to find that around the world there are patients in their 50’s, 60’s and even older who are choosing to transform their smile through orthodontic treatment.

The main limitation with adult orthodontics is that adults over the years may have accumulated more oral health problems. This can range from having teeth missing, large fillings, root fillings, gum problems, bridges, and veneers and on top of this in the natural process of aging often have much deeper bites and more crowding. Children and teenagers tend to have all their teeth with few fillings and healthy gums. Nonetheless the majority of adults can still very effectively have orthodontics if they don't like the way their teeth look or if they have problems with the function of their teeth and bite.

In reality TV shows, people undergo massive dental transformations. As the TV shows are filmed over a couple of months, orthodontics is never an option. Typically veneers are used. These do indeed have the advantage of an instant new smile. Crowning, bridge work and implants can similarly be spectacular. While I do not in any way play down the value of these treatment methods, it should be appreciated that orthodontics is a valid alternative in many cases. It does take longer but the advantage at the end is that your new smile with great teeth, is your own and there is no need for continued maintenance and/or future treatments.

Adult orthodontics..

Having straight teeth also makes brushing and flossing easier, while overlapping of the teeth can make cleaning and flossing difficult. This means, that after we’ve crafted your new beautiful smile, it’ll continually improve with improved dental hygiene.

There are several benefits that apply to adult orthodontics and this is probably why around the world more and more adults are wearing braces or having plastic aligner treatments than ever before.
