Clear aligners, explained simply
Clear aligners are thin, see-through plastic trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Each tray is slightly different to the last, gently guiding your teeth into a new position over time.
You wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day. You take them out to eat, drink anything that isn't water, and clean your teeth. Every one to two weeks, you swap to the next tray in your sequence.
That's it. No brackets glued to your teeth. No wires. No tightening appointments.

Angel Aligners
A newer-generation clear aligner system made from a next-gen clear material designed to resist staining better than older aligners. Comparable in price to fixed braces at our practice, with the same removable, discreet experience.
A strong option for patients who want a quality clear aligner system without the Invisalign® brand premium on certain cases.

Clear aligners can help with a wider range of issues than most people realise. At your consultation, Dr Shaboodien will tell you honestly whether aligners are right for your case, or whether something else would work better.
- Crowding – when there isn't enough space for your teeth, so they overlap or twist
- Spacing – noticeable gaps between teeth that you've always been self-conscious about

Consultation with Dr Shaboodien
You'll meet our specialist orthodontist and treatment coordinator. We'll listen to what you want to change, ask about your goals, and answer every question you've got.

iTero 3D digital scan
No gooey impression trays. Our iTero scanner builds an accurate 3D model of your teeth in minutes, and shows you a preview of how your teeth could look after treatment.

Your personalised plan
Dr Shaboodien reviews your scan and designs a treatment plan tailored to your case. You'll get a clear estimate of how long treatment will take and what it will cost. In some cases, you can start the same day.
4.
Wearing your aligners
Most patients change trays every one to two weeks at home. You'll come into Maroochydore for check-ins every six to eight weeks so Dr Shaboodien can monitor progress and make adjustments.
5.
Retention
Once your teeth are where you want them, you'll get retainers to keep them there. Treatment isn't truly finished without this step, and it's included in your plan.

Dr. Shabier Shaboodien
Specialist Orthodontist | Invisalign® Diamond Provider
Dr Shaboodien brings almost 20 years of specialist experience, with dual qualifications in Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. That dual background means he can handle straightforward cases and complex multidisciplinary ones with the same calm confidence.
He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Mysore, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong. He later earned a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from the University of Adelaide, where his training included significant clinical experience with the Australian Craniofacial Unit and the Cleft Lip and Palate Unit at Flinders University.
His credentials include Membership and Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, alongside recognition from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in both Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry.

What clear aligners cost on the Sunshine Coast
The honest answer is that it depends on your case. Mild crowding takes less time, fewer aligners, and costs less than a complex bite correction. The only way to give you an accurate figure is at an in-person consultation.
What we can tell you upfront:

- Flexible weekly, fortnightly or monthly schedules, with terms from 12 to 36 months.
- No hidden costs. Your plan covers your aligners, your scans, your check-ins, your retainers, and two years of retainer aftercare.
Questions we get asked a lot
How long does clear aligner treatment take?
Most cases take between six and 18 months, though some take longer depending on complexity. Dr Shaboodien will give you a personalised estimate at your consultation. Teeth move at different rates for everyone, so the timeline you're given is a guide, not a guarantee.
Can I eat with them in?
No. You take them out to eat and to drink anything other than water. This is actually one of the benefits, you can eat whatever you want, you just brush and put them back in afterwards.
What happens if I lose an aligner?
Don't panic. Call us, and depending on where you are in your treatment, Dr Shaboodien will either ask you to move to the next tray early or order a replacement.
Will clear aligners affect my speech?
For the first few days, you may notice a slight lisp while your tongue gets used to the trays. It almost always settles within a week, and most people around you won't notice.
Are clear aligners as effective as braces?
For most cases, yes. Both move teeth using gentle, controlled pressure. The difference is how that pressure is applied. For some highly complex cases, fixed braces may still be the better option, and Dr Shaboodien will tell you honestly if that's the case for you.
Do I have to wear retainers forever?
Yes, in some form. Teeth have memory and want to drift back to where they were. Wearing your retainers as directed is what keeps your new smile in place long-term.
